OttoTrade

my first hackathon win

At Bloom Knights 2026, the 12-hour summer hackathon hosted by KnightHacks, my roommate Reileigh, two teammates we had just met, and I built OttoTrade. Otto helps you navigate your portfolio by managing your emotions during volatile market movements and making price action easier to understand. We created an app that tracks global news and events that could affect asset prices, then displays them on a bubble map to explain significant price changes.

We built this project using React for the frontend and Supabase for the backend. Authentication and the database were both handled by Supabase. Our mascot was inspired by Pearl, the octopus in Finding Nemo. I'm proud of how much we accomplished in 12 hours, from building a fully functional site to launching it for real users.

I presented the idea to my group because I held stocks and crypto, and I often saw sudden price movements that I couldn't explain. For someone inexperienced, those movements can be scary and trigger an instinct to panic and buy or sell without a clear reason. We built Otto to help people manage the emotional side of trading and take a more systematic approach!
